Help us to help others: Many developmentally disabled individuals with a little extra help and support have become independent and self sufficient. It is thus disheartening that the Family Council in Florida reports that over 20,000 developmentally disabled individuals, eligible for government services, are on the Wait List for Medicaid Waiver services. This means that nearly one of every out of two mentally disabled adults goes without any program or service assistance from the State of Florida. 

Despite being one of the richest per capita income States in the US, the State of Florida ranks among the worst in its financial support for the disabled adults. This is a disgrace and we urge all visitors of this web site to contact their State Representative and express their outrage about this shameful situation.

AFIRE-Pinellas does not receive government moneys to fund its activities and services. All of our support depends on donations and income from our fundraising events such as yard sales, Bowlathon and membership fees. For over 20 years AFIRE-Pinellas has provided volunteering help and over $75,000 in financial support to the LifeSkill classes and other programs serving the disabled in Pinellas County.
